Kika Notten

The earth in all its diversity is an endless source of inspiration for Kika Notten. She translates natural beauty, transience and vulnerability into silent landscapes or worlds on fire. In her drawings she goes even further, she crawls, as it were, into the trees, closer to the core, the system in which everything that lives on earth counts and contributes to the bigger picture.

When Kika spent a month as Artist in Residence on Vancouver Island (Canada), she gained a deep sense of how everything on this earth is connected. Wandering among the ancient trees and along the rugged coasts of the island, she saw and felt the kinship, from moss to seaweed and from mushroom to barnacle. The fascination that arose there has only grown since then. She discovered that the refinement she wanted to show was better reflected in works on paper. In her drawings, Kika explores the value of all organisms. Drawing after drawing, a parallel universe is created where everything matters and is connected.
